School Committees
Parental involvement in school committees enables Touchstone to keep tuition costs affordable. The committees are also a great way to meet and socialize with other parents, while contributing to a great cause: your child’s school! School Committees perform the planning, management, and daily operational functions of the school. Each family is expected to participate in at least one committee. Parents can choose from the following committees:
- Admissions
- Building
- Communications
- Field Trip
- Finance
- Food
- Fundraising
- Special Events
- Teacher Recruitment
- Technology
Admissions/Student Recruitment
The Student Recruitment Committee works with parents and students from first contact to student admission. This committee hosts open houses to welcome families to the school and answer any questions they may have about Touchstone. This committee also meets with new families to familiarize them with school life at Touchstone.
Building
The Building Committee proves that Touchstone is a “hands–on” school. Our school facility is maintained by parents. From renovating our facility to snow removal, the building committee does it all. If you are handy, this committee is for you!
Communications
The Communications Committee links Touchstone to our community. It provides strategic communications planning to help the school reach its goals and make information about our school easily accessible to parents, teachers, and the local community. The committee is also responsible for developing a consistent look and feel for all school-related materials and producing information such as brochures and this website.
Field Trip
The Field Trip Committee selects and plans monthly field trips. Some field trips involve the whole school and others are class–specific. Field trip coordinators work with teachers and other committees to develop the monthly class calendar and organize all field trip-related activities. This committee also engages guest speakers for the school.
Finance
The Finance Committee is responsible for producing school budgets (setting tuition, salaries, assorted expenses), collecting receivables and paying payables. The Finance Committee monitors the financial stability of the school and any programs related to finance, such as fundraising . This committee also ensures that the school’s bookkeeping and accounts are up–to–date and that annual returns are completed and remitted.
Food
The Food Committee is responsible for setting food policies for the school (for example, no–nut, no–junk food), scheduling snack duty, and providing a weekly hot lunch program. Members of the committee also participate in scheduled kitchen cleaning activities and provide food for special events as required.
Fundraising
The Fundraising Committee plans activities that generate much-needed revenue for the school. This revenue contributes to a financial assistance program, a capital campaign, and the purchase of equipment and materials not covered by tuition. Fundraisers have included a gala dinner and auction, community breakfasts, and cheese sales.
Special Events
The Special Events Committee ensures that events, such as International Night and the Annual Spring Show, come off without a hitch. This committee is responsible for the organization, presentation, and follow–up of all Special Events, including teacher birthdays, teacher appreciation, and holiday and seasonal festivities.
Teacher Recruitment
The Teacher Recruitment Committee brings the best and brightest teachers to our school. As required by student body growth, this committee works in all aspects of the teacher interviewing and selection process: from developing job descriptions to presenting job offers to successful candidates.
Technology
The Technology Committee provides support for the school’s computer hardware and software. The committee plans, implements, and maintains information technology (IT) related upgrades for the school. They also provide hands–on troubleshooting to keep teachers connected to parents through e–mail updates.
